Former Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano appointed manager of Argentina Under 20
Javier Mascherano, former Liverpool player will take on his first coaching role when he takes charge as Argentina Under-20 manager.

Mascherano will start work as Argentina Under-20 head coach in January.
The 37-year old who recorded 147 caps for Argentina and served as his country's captain will take over from Fernando Batista.

Mascherano fielded for Liverpool and Barcelona during his playing days. As a versatile player, he won five Spanish La Liga titles and two Uefa Champions League during his eight-year stay at Barcelona.
He joined Liverpool in February 2007 and helped the Reds reach the final of the Uefa Champions League final that year before moving to Camp Nou in 2010.

Mascherano retired from football in 2020 having played last for Estudiantes, an Argentine Primera Division club.
