Martial has not fielded for new manager Ralf Rangnick since he took charge of the team.
The German boss disclosed that Martial picked up a minor injury during training last week.
The 26-year old's agent Philippe Lamboley told SkySports: "Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.
"He just needs to play. He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon."
Before Saturday's trip to Norwich, when asked about his transfer plans for the January window, Rangnick said: "We have to make sure players want to stay here.
"If players are not getting enough game time it might make sense to speak individually. Loan might make sense for some."
