Goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane handed Jurgen Klopp's Reds the victory that will guarantee them the top position in Group B with two games unplayed.
The English hosts took the lead in the 13th minute through Portuguese forward Diogo Jota despite Atletico winning several early goal chances.
In the 21st minute, Sadio Mane ensured he beautifully converted Trent Alexandre-Arnold's assist to make it two for Liverpool and seal victory.
It was a situation of bad to worse for the Spanish side when Felipe was red-carded for a violent conduct shortly before the end of the first 45 minutes.
Felipe had tripped Mane, however, after ignoring Referee Danny Makkelie's call, the Dutchman made the decision to send the defender off.
