French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have confirmed that forward Neymar will be missing in action for up to eight weeks after picking up an ankle ligament injury.

Neymar, 29, was helped out of the pitch on a stretcher in the last few minutes of their encounter at Saint Etienne on Sunday, a game the Parisians won 3-1.

PSG disclosed: "The examinations carried out confirm Neymar suffered a sprained left ankle with ligament damage."

Neymar is set to miss seven PSG Ligue 1 matches and one Champions League tie.

The French top flight giants added that in 72 hours more update would be made.

In the French Ligue 1, PSG are currently on the top spot of the table with twelve points clear of second-placed Rennes.

The Parisians are guaranteed to close the Uefa Champions League preliminaries as second in Group A and scale through into the last 16.

PSG will lock horns with Club Brugges on December 7, before the tournament resumes in February.
