Captain Jordan Henderson netted his first league goal of the season after converting Mohamed Salah's pass to help Liverpool take the lead in the 4th minute.
Sadio Mane headed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross from the right to make it two for the hosts in the 24th minute.
Brighton pulled one back in the 41st minute when Zambian pro midfielder Enock Mwepu found the back of the net after lifting the ball over Reds goalkeeper Alisson from 20 yards out.
Jurgen Klopp's side paid for their sloppiness when Leandro Trossard levelled for the Seagulls in the 65th minute.
Brighton would have clinched all three points at Anfield after having the ball in the net the third time, only for the offside flag to deny them the lead.
