World Cup Qatar 2022: Argentina 0-0 Brazil - Match official suspended for 'serious errors'
Brazil winger Raphinha was left with a bloody mouth in the goalless draw between Argentina and Brazil, where it appeared that Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi used his elbow on the Brazilian - went unpunished and CONMEBOL said the use of his arm amounted to "violent conduct".
The South American Football governing body, CONMEBOL, said, the referee and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) who officiated in Tuesday's World cup 2022 qualifier between Argentina and Brazil have been suspended for "serious errors".
Tite, Brazil head coach, fumed and angrily blasted the decision by VAR and said it was "inconceivable" as well as "impossible" for VAR not to have seen Otamendi's elbow on Raphinha.
In a statement, CONMEBOL said: "The performance of chief referee Andres Ismael Cunha Soca Vargas and VAR Esteban Daniel Ostojich Vega... were technically analysed... concluding that they committed serious and manifest errors."
The South American football governing body further said the two officials have been suspended for "an indefinite period".
With the goalless draw outcome, Argentina joins Brazil in securing qualification for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
