The White and Sky Blues join Brazil as the second South American country to qualify for the world football tournament.
Argentina's spot in Qatar was confirmed following Chile 2-0 home defeat by Ecuador later on Tuesday with an earlier Uruguay 3-0 fall in Bolivia.
Head coach of Argentina Lionel Scaloni said qualification sealed a "magnificent" year for his side.

Argentina are the reigning Copa America kings after beating Brazil in Rio de Janeiro in July, and have remained unbeaten in 27 games over the past two years.
Scaloni further said: "Winning the Copa, qualifying for the World Cup unbeaten - it was a dream.
"Having qualified so far in advance, in a really difficult qualifying section, is something we should be proud of."
